MODERN COASTAL LIVING SPACE
INTERIOR DESIGN
Take inspiration from the breathtaking coastal homes that are flooded in glossy magazines and on Pinterest and bring the seafront inside with a modern coastal inspired living room - why only enjoy your home when the sun is out when you can feel like you are on holiday mode all year round? You do not need to live by the sea, or take up traditional blue nautical stripes and place seashells everywhere to create an elegant coastal inspired living room.
With natural lighting, a soft colour palette and clean textures, you can transform your home, with classic and contemporary lines to indulge in a tranquil and relaxed environment - coaster decor is the “ultimate definition of calm” and timeless through seasonal changes. The Saint & Noire team share our top interior design recommendations when it comes to embracing this popular trend in your living space for an endless dreamy summer at home.
RETAIN LIGHT
Abundant and bright lighting is key in modern coastal decor - the ambience should feel light, breezy and inviting and not be too dark or too warm. The tone of lighting is essential to create fluidity between the indoors and outdoors. Short term implementation includes large ceiling chandeliers, artefact inspired table lamps and glass hurricane candles - whilst long term try to bring the outdoor natural light inside, with large windows and glass doors or a beautiful skylight.“If you are lucky to have a coastal view, pass on window treatments that may obstruct the view of the coast and arrange sofas and sectionals around your best view” - explains Lenka Marsh, Founder of Saint & Noire
WHITE COLOUR PALETTE
Crisp white is the epitome of minimalist coastal interior design - and beautifully reflects light, whilst portraying the illusion of a much-desired bigger and airer space. You can supplement with soothing accent colours of grey, beige, brown and black - but remember to keep the shades soft and fresh - simplicity is fundamental. “Amplify the light in your home with plenty of white – white walls, white floors, white ceilings – as white amplifies light and provides a flood of sun rays which gives coastal homes their vast sense of openness”
NATURAL TEXTURES
Make texture the centre of attention in your coastal inspiring living room. It is essential to coordinate furniture and fabrics to the coastal theme with wicker, rattan or whitewashed wood. Embrace light and sheer textures - choose light cotton and linen for an effortless, casual and comfortable setting. “All textures should be natural with luxurious silks and weaves, you want natural fibre rugs which make you feel like you are walking on the beach”. For accessorising keep it subtle “less is more” with intricate ornaments or statement pieces to avoid the build-up of clutter. Be inspired by organic hues and nature and add sophisticated decorative elements.
