ESSENTIAL LUXURY - MASTER BEDROOM
THE MOST INTIMATE DESTINATION INSIDE OUR HOME
Saint & Noire was inspired by the breathtaking and dreamy location of Lake Como, Italy to fulfill our client’s desire to redesign their private residential apartment in the region. The room that required the most thought was the ‘master bedroom’ and considered the most important and intimate destination in our homes - a place to escape, relax and recharge.
Bedroom interior design can have a fundamental role in the quality of our sleep - we all know very well the benefits of good sleep and the lack thereof. In this article, we share the essential features of a master bedroom to ensure you have a great night's sleep, from the perfect bed to the sleep seducing scents, the coziest textiles, and the comfiest of cushions. For our clients, a night of good sleep is the beginning of a good day.
THE BED
If you want to take a calming and stylish nap, you will want the ‘crème de la crème’ of beds - we prefer handcrafted craftsmanship to aid the perfect sleeping environment without sacrificing style. We often find our clients prefer a bed with a tall and statement-making headboard for a striking bedroom concept that encapsulates the bedside tables and creates a closed space for time to unwind after a busy day. To accompany your new bed, look for master mattress artisans to achieve the ultimate tailored sleeping support. We recommend authentic wool mattresses which can help to regulate a natural temperature for a great night’s sleep.
THE CANDLE
Aromatherapy candles can look beautiful in the bedroom, but the power of essential oils can also help to soothe the soul, body and mind. Some of our favourite floral and sweet scents which can evoke sleep sensations in your master bedroom are Ylang Ylang which also has a sedative effect to help reduce stress, anxiety and hypertension before bed. Commonly used for relaxation, Lavender can help to improve the quality of your sleep. We suggest diffusing a lavender oil-based candle about an hour before you intend to sleep. A ‘sleep remedy’, Neroli has soothing properties to help relax the mind, relieve insomnia and some studies show even reduce blood pressure and ease agitation. Either use these scents individually or together to create an elevated and much desired tranquil space for sleep and improved wellbeing.
THE TEXTILES & COLOUR PALETTE
The colour palette and the texture palette, aligned with the presentation play a vital and collaborative role in the master bedroom and the invitation for sleep. When we think of our most luxurious night’s sleep we often think of our favourite hotel. Recreate that moment to go beyond a vacation and ensure you sleep well all year round. For the colours opt for clean and elegant neutral tones from whites, creams to greys and immerse yourself in comfort with textures of cotton and linen. Overflowing presentation is the theme - from a poignantly placed throw to the lengthy borders of the pillowcases.
THE CUSHIONS
There are cushions for sleeping and cushions for decorating your master bedroom. From placing on the bed under your legs or on armchairs whilst you read, cushions can bring pattern and vibrance. Luxury fashion designers may be overlooked for their home range, but you may well be surprised to find exquisite hero pieces for your master bedroom, from designers such as Missoni, Mulberry and Roberto Cavalli. A mix of accent fabrics from velvet and linen cushions can easily refresh the interiors with minimal effort but maximum impact.
